Indiana Education Online FAQ
What degree programs are offered online?
All of the standard degree programs can be followed and achieved online including the associates, bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. Depending on the program you are going for, your degree may not be entirely available online and may require some in-person attendance to complete.
Do I have to be accepted to a university to take online classes there?
Yes. Since an online degree is just as valuable as one achieved through traditional education methods, you must meet the same requirements as a traditional student before you will be accepted to the degree program and can have a degree conferred upon you for your work.
How quickly can I get my degree through online study?
That depends on you and your needs. Studying online is just as quick or slow as a traditional education - as quick or slow as you want it to be. You can take many classes in a semester and quickly graduate in just a couple of years, or you can take your time, and only take one or two courses per semester and "linger" in school for a lifetime if that is your wish.
Will diploma indicate that I received my degree online?
No. There is no way for any potential future employer to know the difference between your degree and a degree that was attained by attending traditional classes.
How will I interact with other students or the instructor?
Through e-mail, discussion boards, chats, and on occasion, the phone, if you wish. Instructors who teach online classes are usually required to maintain office hours for their online students who wish to visit them in person if you happen to take classes at a university that is close to your home.
How is testing conducted for online classes?
Testing can vary from instructor to instructor, but there are several methods that can be used. Some classes will have no testing at all and the instructor will glean knowledge of your understanding simply through the projects or postings that you are required to make through the course of the class in the semester. Other teachers will use online testing programs that you must log into and answer multiple-choice, or short-answer questions in a timed format in order to receive a grade. Still other instructors may simply have you submit answers to questions that they post online on a certain date and consider your responses, given at your leisure, the answer to the test.
